
Andy Dulin is a conservative Republican representing the citizens of District 6 on the Charlotte City Council. Elected in 2005, Andy is serving his second term where he is strong conservative voice and advocate for taxpayers.
Andy prides himself on providing superior constituent service in District 6. He routinely meets with neighborhood groups and HOAs to work on community safety and hear constituents voice their concerns. Andy is proud to have a reputation for responding to email within 24 hours and phone calls within 36 hours.
Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Budget Committee (2007 to present) and is a member of the Community Safety (2005 to present), Environment (2007 to present), and Governmental Affairs Committees (2005 to present).
During his first term on the Charlotte City Council, Andy served as Vice-Chairman of the Economic Development Committee (2005-2007).
Childhood and Education
Andy was born on August 10, 1959 in Heidelberg, Germany, where his father, Dr. Thomas Dulin, a well-respected Charlotte physician, was stationed while in the United States Army. The Dulin family returned to Charlotte shortly after Andy was born.
Andy fondly recalls growing up, ‘Down on Highway 51’ where his family owned a small farm. Andy attended both public and private schools while growing up in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, including Charlotte Latin. Upon graduation, Andy attended Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. In 1984, He earned a BS degree in Travel and Tourism with a minor in Marketing.
Experience
Andy Dulin understands the demands and responsibilities as both a small business owner and as an entrepreneur. Returning to Charlotte, Andy went to work in the commercial building industry, working in business development and project management.
In the 1990s, Andy owned and operated a Krystal Burger franchise off South Boulevard where he managed 85 employees, many of whom he recruited from downtown homeless shelters. Andy knows how to meet a payroll, what it means to be responsible to your employees, and how higher taxes hurt small business.
Currently, Andy Dulin is a real estate broker with Cottingham-Chalk, where he sells residential real estate in the Charlotte Metro area.
Tradition of Public Service
Andy’s family roots run deep in Mecklenburg County. His ancestors, including Sugar Dulin, first moved to Mecklenburg County in the 1700’s to trade and farm. Civic involvement is a family tradition in the Dulin Family . His great grandfather, Louis Anderson, served on the first Charlotte City Council to install the City Manager form of government (1929-31).
Andy is involved actively in Charlotte having served as past member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Zoning Board of Adjustment, a founding board member and subsequent Chairman of Second String Santas--a local Christmas charity), a board member of the Harris YMCA--where he led a recent capital campaign, Y-Guides, a member of the Goodfellas Club, and a former coach of both Little League baseball and youth soccer.
In 2003, Andy earned a fellowship with the Institute of Political Leadership. He is also a graduate of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce Leadership School.
Family and Marriage
Andy is married to wife Cathy for 17 years; They have three sons, AJ, age 16, Conner, age 13, and Tommy, age 9. Andy enjoys activities with his wife and sons including: travel, swimming, biking, running, snow-skiing, and golf.
The Dulins are active members of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and make their home in the Barclay Downs neighborhood, near Myers Park High School and South Park Mall.
